Huntington Memorial Garden

Huntington Parish Council want to work with the local community to move one of our mining wheels back onto the old pit site, 25 years after the Littleton Colliery closed!

We want to work with you to create a memorial garden on the Village Green where the names of local WW1 and WW2 heroes can be remembered and the hard working mining staff of Littleton Colliery can "clock in" for one last time.

The project is expected to cost in excess of £100k and the Parish Council are actively seeking grants from local and national organisations and are welcoming donations on our Crowdfunding Page from residents, no matter how small to try and move the fantastic project forward.

This page will keep you updated about the project so please keep checking back and spread the word! Invite everyone you know, and lets unite Huntington to literally reinvent the wheel!

Who are we, and what do we do!?

The project is being spearheaded by Huntington Parish Council who have provided many amenities for the local area including the transformation of the pit mount into a beautiful community leisure park and the construction of the play park on the Littleton Green.  Now however we want to go that extra mile and create a space where local residents can sit and remember their loved ones, knowing that their legacy will be remembered for years to come.

Who's on board with the project?

The project has been extremely well received by local residents who want to see the Mining Wheel re-sited back where it belongs.  Almost every family in Huntington would have had, at some point, a member of their family working down Littleton Colliery.

Our MP for South Staffordshire and Secretery Of Defence  Gavin Williamson (pictured above)  stated that  “It is only right that we celebrate the wonderful mining heritage that we have here in Huntington" and County Councillor for Huntington and Hatherton David Williams (pictured above) added: “I feel that this project would honour both service and pit workers alike who gave so much for our future".

How much is this going to cost!?

The project is expected to cost in excess of £100k and the Huntington Parish Council have already donated a massive £20k towards this great cause, but more funding is needed.

To raise funds for the project, former Littleton Miners, or their families on their behalf will be able to purchase a brick that will have their name engraved on it. Each engraved brick will cost just £30 so if you know of anyone who has worked down Littleton Colliery and would like to have their names displayed please spread the word!

The local heroes who lost their lives in both World Wars and down the Littleton Colliery will have their names engraved for free as a thank you from us all in Huntington.

The "Nitty Gritty!"  How are we going to fund the project?

Business donation opportunities and Grants will provide a solid foundation for the project, which will account for over half of the funding.  Local residents will then get "stuck in" and play their part, by purchasing engraved bricks, benches and remembrance trees giving the whole project a community feel.

Merchandise sales will also help move fund the project and will also provide some valuable exposure for the project.

Finally...

Finally, can we again thank you for interest in this project.  The support we have had to date has been remarkable and there is a real appetite from our local community to get this Memorial Garden finished.  “Let's Bring It Home” and do Huntington proud!
